But while these capabilities are undeniably useful in many ways, advances in AI raise many concerns about the future of civilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an open letter published on the website <a href=\"https:\/\/futureoflife.org\/open-letter\/pause-giant-ai-experiments\/\">futureoflife.org<\/a>, <strong>Hundreds of experts propose a six-month suspension of research on systems more powerful than GPT-4.<\/strong>, from the creator of ChatGPT, and they issue a warning about the <strong>The risk that technological advances may pose to humanity.<\/strong>Furthermore, the same group calls for the creation of regulatory bodies and accountability for damages caused by AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to experts, advanced AI could represent a profound shift in the history of life on Earth and should be planned and managed with proportionate care and resources. However, this level of planning and management is not happening, although the last few months have seen AI labs locked in a headlong rush to develop and deploy increasingly powerful digital minds that no one, not even their creators, can reliably understand, predict, or control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the letter, the group raises several questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To what extent should we allow machines to flood our information channels with propaganda and falsehoods?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should we automate all jobs, including the enjoyable ones?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should we develop non-human minds that would eventually outnumber us, be smarter, become obsolete, and replace us?
